Shackleton maths investigation

Today we revised and applied our knowledge of area to design the sleeping and storage deck on board Endurance.

We had to make links with our previous learning, collaborate to find an effective design and reason to justify our ideas.

World Book Day

Today we celebrated World Book Day. We discussed favourite books and dressed up as our favourite characters. We even spent time with Foundation (Mars) reading the, stories and talking about them together. We also listened to the younger children and helped them with their reading, giving them tips on how to sound out words they were unsure of. We enjoyed spending time with other children and passing on the skills we have learned.

Visit to The Deep

Our first week back after the half term has been a busy one in Neptune Class. Today we went on a trip to The Deep to learn about how animals survive and are adapted to different habitats. We looked at all of the creatures that live at The Deep before focussing on one particular animal that live in The Antarctic: Penguins.

We used classification keys to identify different species and then researched more about the problems some of the penguins are facing. We thought about how humans are responsible for some of these issues and what we need to do to protect them.

We had great fun but learnt lots at the same time and look forward to continuing our learning back at school.

Singing Sea Shanties

We have been learning sea shanties with our vocal coach, Mrs Gooch. Today, we had to use many of our BLP skills, including noticing, collaboration and revising, to help us sing in harmony with each other. We even managed to add some actions, imagining we were pulling in the rope to haul in the anchor and nets. We had great fun and worked together well.

Describing Antarctica

As preparation for our diary writing, we looked at images of Antarctica and generated descriptive word banks ready for our descriptive passages. We thought about our five senses and what we would see, hear, smell, taste and feel in the Arctic environment.

We worked in collaborative pairs to create a draft description, ready to improve independently and apply within our own writing.
